Legislator Rebecca Sanin Honors Huntington Community First Aid Squad’s Roger Winter for EMS Appreciation Week

On May 20th, Legislator Rebecca Sanin recognized Roger Winter as District 16’s EMS Appreciation Week honoree, celebrating his extraordinary commitment to public service and over 45 years of volunteer leadership with the Huntington Community First Aid Squad.

Since joining the Squad in 1978, Roger has held nearly every leadership position—including Captain, multiple Chief roles, Treasurer, and President of the Board of Directors. From 2008 to 2015, he served as President, guiding the organization through a critical period of growth and transformation.

Known for his dedication, Roger has long referred to the Squad as his “home away from home,” committing countless hours to operations, training, and mentorship. His passion for public service extends beyond EMS; Roger also served as a physical education teacher and coach at Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington, where he inspired students both in the classroom and on the field.
